Safe Streets Pilot Project

The City of Austin is piloting a program to make residential streets that lack sidewalks safer and more comfortable for people walking and children playing. Shared Streets use traffic calming and pedestrian-centered design to accommodate all travel modes, ages, and abilities.

For more information, go to:

https://www.austintexas.gov/SharedStreets

Shelbourne Drive has been identified as a candidate for this pilot program.

The pilot projects will remain in place for approximately six months and will be evaluated before and after street design changes to help determine how well they worked. If pilot projects produce the desired outcomes and continue to have the support of residents along the street, the design changes will remain in place longer than six months
